Description
SOLDBUCH – 6. PANZER DIVISION – 116. “WINDHUND” PANZER DIVISION – NORMANDY
German army (Heer) Soldbuch issued to Obergef. Bernhard WEBER. Original issue with uniform photo Aug. 24, 1939 with unit Kavallerie Schützen Regiment 4. The Regiment was initially part of the 1. leichte Division and a few months later became the 6 Panzer Division. His last unit was 2./Panzer Aufklaruings Abteilung 116, part of the 116. Pazner Division. He was wounded during the France Campaign from a pistol shot to the left side of his head. In March 1945 he was wounded again in combat. Award entries include Wound badge in Black, Wound Badge in Silver, Panzer Assault Badge in SILVER, and Sudetenland Campaign Medal. The 16 Panzer Division saw action against the Allies in NORMANDY, AACHEN, Hurtgen Forest, and Battle of the Bulge and other important battles. On 10 December, before the offensive, it was partly refitted, with 26 Panzer IV and 43 Panther tanks and 25 Jagdpanzer IV tank destroyers. Since Weber was a Panzer crewman from as far back as the France Campaign of 1940, he certainly would have played an important role, being called back up after recovering from his headwind in 1940.
