1936 BERLIN OLYMPICS PAPERWEIGHT FROM OLYMPIC VILLAGE
An exceptionally rare relic from the 1936 Berlin Olympics, an attractive paperweight used in the Olympic Village itself during the games. Heavy cast-iron paperweight honors the 1936 Berlin Summer Olympics and the Olympic Village, measuring 5 x 7.5 x 1.5 in. and weighing approximately three pounds. It features text and imagery in relief to either side: an overhead depiction of the Olympic Village, captioned: ‘Olympisches Dorf, Freundschaft und Frieden’ (‘Olympic Village, Friendship and Peace’). The reverse depicts Olympics rings below the Brandenburg Gate flanked by buildings in Berlin, this captioned: ‘XI. Olympische Spiele, Berlin 1936’ (‘XI. Olympic Games, Berlin 1936’). In fine condition.
